The Sacramento Pioneer association was founded by pioneers in 1854 to preserve the history of the area for future generations. The membership today continues that purpose. Over the years the organization has been instrumental in preserving Sutterís Fort, valuable paintings, photographs, buildings, artifacts, and documents related to Sacramento. We preserve and maintain Pioneer Grove in the Sacramento City Cemetery and Pioneer Hall in downtown Sacramento. To inspire a new generation to explore the foundations of our community, the Association is pleased to offer a $1000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior submitting an excellent essay on the history of the Sacramento area. Ultimately we shall publish a compilation of several years outstanding essays for the community.
