Sacramento Pioneer Association

The Sacramento Pioneer Association is a non-profit organization started in 1854 by a gathering of early Sacramentans who realized that they were living in important times. Their mission was to preserve Sacramento history for future generations. Through the years they have been instrumental in preserving Sutter's Fort and many artifacts, documents, buildings, and publications. Currently the members continue these efforts through their own interest in the area's past and their encouragement to students of history.

The all out effort to raise $250,000 by  2008 is currently at $222,000. Efforts to reach the goal continue.

The campaign will ensure that there is enough capital to earn the cost of maintenance of our venerable cemetery in perpetuity. That capital must be in the neighborhood of $250,000 in order to generate enough money for responsible maintenance. The corpus of the trust endowment can never be touched. Just the earnings may be used for the purpose of the trust. This is a matter of fiduciary, as well as historical,  responsibility. When the Sacramento Pioneer Association purchased our area in the Old City Cemetery in the 1860s, the members set up regulations to keep it beautiful and well kept through time. In those days labor costs  were not what they are now, and this undertaking did not seem at all  burdensome. Today things are a bit different. We must see that this  treasure is preserved and receives repair and attention whenever needed – forever.
